Presumably in an effort to distance himself from Washington (hard to do when you’re a senator) Ted Cruz stated outright that the Republican-controlled congress listens only to lobbyists, and he told us why they do that. “And let me tell you why:It’s not that this majority doesn’t get things done; it does get things done. But it listens to one and only one voice: That is the voice of the Washington cartel, of the lobbyists on K Street, of the big money and big corporations.”

He praised Donald Trump seeing this too, saying he’s “bold and brash, and he’s willing to speak the truth. And he’s taking on the Washington cartel.” And Cruz got a quick start on this by taking on John Boehner. By doing so, he clearly admitted the Republicans were part of the Washington “cartel” — all but him apparently.  Washington Post
