- Don’t say you’re against corporations.
- You almost surely are not — think of your cell phone, iPod, car, refrigerator …
- Saying that allows the right brand progressives as socialists, and we’re not.
- Talk (and think !!) about avoiding government waste.
- Don’t exaggerate.
- E.g. Do not say that on our present course global warming will definitely be catastrophic in 50 years. The UN scientists were very careful NOT to say that, and you do not know more than they do.
- Listen to your opponents and let them know when you agree
- Except for the crazy ones, you will find something in common with most people, and you will learn a little from many.
- If you show them you listen they will be much more likely to listen to you.
- Keep it simple
- Simple accurate points are for more persuasive.
- Complicated leads to mistakes.
- Explain why your view is moral or ethical
- Economic stimulus matters because getting laid off due to a financial/housing bubble is unfair and harmful to millions of families who did nothing to cause the problem.
- Don’t rant. Don’t be offensive
- It may feel satisfying, but hurts your cause and hence, your friends who are with you.
