They can’t do this on all legislation, but a process called “reconciliation” allows it for budget matters.
McConnell also tells the billionaires that all this is thanks to extending “freedom of speech” to huge corporations and gutting campaign finance laws. “So all Citizens United did was to level the playing field for corporate speech.” McConnell went on to say, “The worst day of my political life was when President George W. Bush signed McCain-Feingold into law in the early part of his first administration.” What McConnell hates above all else is bipartisan agreement on making elections reflect middle class America more and billionaires less.
At the same meeting, Republican Congressional candidates Cory Gardner (R, CO) and Joni Ernst (R, IO) pitched for billionaire funding to help them turn Iowa and Colorado red for the next Presidential race.

Ron Paul says they will all decide to suck it up and will give their vote to McConnell, but there’s another choice: they could vote for the libertarian candidate, David Patterson.
