It’s a little confusing. The Bernie-or-Busters (BoBers) have gone bust. Bernie’s with Hillary, and they’re basically ghosts—no longer part of the real world. But as in Ghostbusters, they can still wreak havoc, and even threaten the world, thanks to their partners in crime flooding out of Trump’s “portal” in Cleveland.
Don’t get me wrong. Most Bernie supporters are terrific. But the BoBers have gone over to the darkside with Darth Nader. So who ya gonna call? The top Ghostbuster himself. Only Bernie has the power to make these magic words work:
“On her worst day [Clinton] would be an infinitely better President than either of the Republican candidates. —Bernie Sanders
That was way back on April 8 [Watch him say it, Read about it]. On June 24 he said he would vote for Clinton, which made one BoBer cry out, “No. Bernie, vote for her in private if you must, but don’t tell us about it.” Then on July 12 he pulled out his Neutrona Wand and let fly this proton stream causing a total protonic reversal for the BoBers.
“I intend to do everything I can to make certain she will be the next president of the United States. …
This campaign is about the needs of the American people and addressing the very serious crises that we face. And there is no doubt in my mind that, as we head into November, Hillary Clinton is far and away the best candidate to do that. …
Our job now is to see that platform implemented by a Democratic Senate, a Democratic House and a Hillary Clinton presidency. … Hillary Clinton will make an outstanding president and I am proud to stand with her here today.”
Whoa. Talk about ectoplasmic debilitation. I’ve used this on several BoBers and they either (1) go silent, (2) run screaming to Jill Stein, or (3) call Bernie a liar.
They don’t actually say “liar,” but imply as much by saying Bernie was “speaking on a national platform to swing state voters.” In other words, he doesn’t believe what he said; he’s just trying to get some dumb supporters to vote against Trump. This was from someone who thinks Hillary is evil but less evil than Trump, and believes Bernie thinks the same.
But Bernie’s not lying. If you trust Bernie on anything, you’ve got to trust him on this, because he says that the “future will be shaped more by what happens on November 8 in voting booths across our nation than by any other event in the world.”
And to make sure we know he means what he said, he explained, “I have come here to make it as clear as possible as to why I am endorsing Hillary Clinton and why she must become our next president.” And then he listed his agreements with Hillary on policy. Here they are, copied straight off the endorsement page of his website.
Nearly complete agreement:
- “fix an economy in America that is rigged and that sends almost all new wealth and income to the top one percent.”
- “raise the minimum wage to a living wage”
- “create millions of new jobs by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure”
- “the right to choose a public option in their health care exchange”
- “President Obama’s idea of tripling funding for the National Health Service Corps”
- “major changes in the way we deliver mental health treatment”
- “transforming our energy system away from fossil fuels”
- “we don’t need to have more people in jail than any other country on earth”
These are Bernie’s goals and he is telling us they are also Hillary’s goals. They cover the spectrum of his top issues. This is why he says “Hillary will make an outstanding president.” If you’re in trouble, repeat that sentence as a mantra. No BoBer can withstand the force of that proton blast for long.
Bernie is not alone. He is backed up by Robert Reich, his most impressive and effective supporter, and by Elizabeth Warren and by MoveOn, his seven-million-person base of support.
Reich summed it up like so: “If [Bernie] loses the nomination, we must fight like hell for Hillary. Not voting, or voting for a third party candidate, helps Trump. [Robert Reich]” And he’s not saying “lesser of two evils,” He’s saying, “I have the deepest respect and admiration for Hillary Clinton.” Reich also tells us that if Trump wins, “It would make it far more difficult ever to achieve the progressive goals you and I share [July 16].”
Bernie has not been fooled. Those who actually know Hillary (like Bernie, Robert and Elizabeth) really like her. There are so many reports of this phenomenon that Ezra Klein of Vox did a huge research project to find out why (The Case for Hillary). She is far different in person than when she is trying to compete in the macho world of mass-media politics. (This former Hillary Hater read all her emails (250,000 shares), and this one used to call her Darth Vader.)
In the more human world of give-and-take politics, she shines both as a person and as a politician who gets things done. She’s Trump’s polar opposite. She listens, and thereby gains the respect of everyone from Bernie to Republicans. And she has spent her life working for change, starting with the most powerless group—children.
These are dangerous times. And the BoBers, whether they believe it or not, are working for Trump. Even in a solid Hillary state like California, where their vote doesn’t matter, they constantly trash Hillary to anyone who will listen. Because we want to think these so-called progressives are on our side, this can be incredibly discouraging. They can also waste a lot of our time as we try to debunk their lies and distortions. Enough already.
But Bernie is right. We must “do everything we can to make certain she will be the next president of the United States.”
