Sect. of State Tillerson to the conservative IJR: “I didn’t want this job. I didn’t seek this job.” Asked why he took it — “My wife told me I’m supposed to do this.”
He never met Trump before the election. But afterwards, Trump wanted to talk to him “about the world.” Tillerson continued, “When he asked me at the end of that conversation to be secretary of state, I was stunned.”
Tillerson went home to his wife, Renda St. Clair, who shook her finger in his face and said, “I told you God’s not through with you.” Tillerson says, “My wife convinced me. She was right. I’m supposed to do this.”
The religious press is in a tizzy. In particular, getReligion.org headlines their half-accusatory question: “Did God really tell him to be secretary of state?” GetReligion, it turns out, is just upset because Rex was president of the Boy Scouts in 2012, when they were re-thinking the exclusion of gay youth. And in 2013, they reversed that.
So there you have it. Proof, right from the most Christian dot-Org that Tillerson’s lying. No, God did NOT tell him to be Sect of State.
Besides God and the Boy Scouts, what do we know?
Trump and Bannon certainly don’t believe the God story. They frequently leave Rex out of the loop on critical foreign policy decisions, most importantly the travel ban for refugees and visitors from a list of Muslim countries.
When the IJR —the only news outlet he trusts— questioned him about Russia, “He was so cagey his answer wasn’t even worthy of inclusion.”
But don’t jump to conclusions. The acting Sect of State is Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. This is unwittingly highlighted by Mr Tillerson’s defenders who assure us that Tillerson is in the loop because he “talks all the time to Jared”. Well good for Rex. Of course he’s no fool and knows that any decision he takes has to be cleared with Trump who will go to Jared for advice anyway.
To sum up
Bannon and Jared are in charge; Trump is the salesman; Rexxon has been assigned the impossible job of convincing foreigners that the US is still run by grownups. And Renda, his wife, told him to be Secretary, not God. Those are z facts. So you’d best get Get Religion and start praying.
