Fact #8: The State Dept was hacked and lost 251,287 classified emails.

This happend in 2010 and 2011, so Clinton spent much of her time in office trying to repair all the damage. The FBI could find no leaks from her server, and found that a couple of hacking attempts failed.

Hundreds of people had access to the classified State Dept server, but hardly anyone had access to Clinton’s server, and few knew it existed. This matters because the leak was an inside job. All the tech skills of the State Dept did no good at all. What saved Clinton was that she used a private server in her basement that almost no one had access to.

At the time it happened, Cablegate was “the largest set of confidential documents ever to be released into the public domain.” The FBI searched some huge government databases full of hacked documents and did not find a single Clinton email.

to warn the State Dept

Fact #9: Nov 2014, Reuters reported that the State Dept had been hacked some time earlier. And in Mar 2015 the hack was continuing and intelligence officials briefed on the investigation said it was the “worst ever” cyberattack intrusion against a federal agency.

Again Clinton had a less sophisticated protection system, but she had the advantage of being a much smaller target. Hacking the whole State Dept was a much bigger prize and so they got hacked for months, possibly for a year — it’s a secret.
