June 2, 2016. The democratic platform and convention are both in jeopardy. And the press has completely missed the surprising answer to the title question: Why did Bernie do this? It’s the key to this whole mess.
Bernie is delighted by getting to pick a third of the Democratic platform committee. That’s unheard of. He promised his picks would “reflect the views of millions.” Meet one such “reflective” pick, Cornel West—the Honorary Chair of Bernie’s true political party (we’ll get to that). In Cornel’s own words:
“Nixon, Bush, Obama, they’re all war criminals.”
- Harsh? Following Cornel’s logic, his own hero FDR is a war criminal par excellence, as are Truman and LBJ.
“Obama is a Rockefeller Republican in Blackface,”
- Perhaps that’s why racist Republicans all just love Obama. They get, he’s a white Republican in disguise! Who would have guessed?
“All he has known culturally is white.”
- Including Michelle, who’s also a white Republican?
“Richard Nixon is to the left of him [Obama] on healthcare”
- Oh, that’s right. Nixon worked hard to bring us Nixoncare. Don’t you remember?
“The same imperial foreign policy [Nixon’s] is at work under Obama.”
- Oh, yes. Helping Iraq stop ISIS is just like Nixon continuing the French colonial war in Vietnam and “carpet bombing” Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, killing over a million.
No offense to Cornel, who is deep in Bernie’s inner circle, but savaging Obama might not be the absolutely best strategy for defeating Trump. In fact, Obama is so popular now (especially compared to Trump) that he could win a third term with ease. Our best hope is to ride on his popularity to retake Congress and the Presidency.
Appointing Cornel may be the single best way to disrupt the convention (watch him), cause disunity, and help elect Trump. So what the heck is Bernie up to?
First, Cornel represents Bernie’s thinking better than you might think. Back in 1989, Bernie was referring to the “old Democrat-Republican, tweedledee tweedledum, two-party system.” Appointing Cornel, shows he still thinks like he did then: LBJ passing the civil rights act, medicare, medicaid, voting rights, food stamps, etc. is just like Reagan cutting taxes on the rich and busting the unions. This is classic socialist “thought,” dating back to the depression (see www.Marxists.org, Roosevelt = tweedledee).
Now, here’s the surprise. Bernie and Cornel are both heroes in the same socialist party and their goal is to take over the Democratic Party. That’s why Bernie put Cornel on the platform committee.
Cornel West is the Honorary Chair of the DSA, the Democratic Socialists of America. That DSA would bestow their highest honor on an unhinged Obama-hater speaks volumes about Democratic Socialists. They are not just the extra-progressive Democrats Bernie claims they are.
Sanders is an honorary member of DSA, but he’s so tied to this party that he’s given many speeches to them including two annual keynote address. In fact, back in 2014, they started drafting him to infiltrate the Democrats. DSA eventually convinced Sanders to run for president and to run as a Democrat.
- Now Sanders has reciprocated and has appointed the Honorary Chair of the DSA to the Democratic Platform Committee.
(Who is Sanders?) The press has not caught on to the DSA ties. Can you help?
Update: During the time of GOP convention West said:
“When it comes to foreign policy, Hillary is of course much more of a hawk than he is. There’s no doubt about it. So both of them, I think, are very dangerous. It’s just that when you specify certain zones, she’s better in certain zones and he’s better in certain zones – but he is still fascist, which is in the end very, very frightening,” West said at the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in Cleveland, which held a social action forum titled “Impact 2016” on the third day of the Republican National Convention.
“Sister Hillary is much better in terms of social issues – keeping track of our precious gay and lesbian brothers and sisters and bisexual and transgender folk. She’s much better in terms of at least wanting to address some issues of racism. There’s no doubt about that. In terms of economic issues, they are both tied to Wall Street. Trump’s an independent money man but he still has a Wall Street mentality. It’s big money – big banks,”
